Haverhill Big Bash 2014 - a report by Iain Ross of the Haverhill Branch

Nine members of our branch turned up at the Haverhill Rec on the morning of Sunday 20th July 2014 – 5 committee members and 4 of the younger members. The day started well when from the donated gazebo we had when going to put it up we discovered we only had the frame but no canvas – Derrick came to the rescue and went back home and got his one – as it turned out – a life saver !

The four younger members ran the Tombola Stall – 2 of them at a time – and with over 80 prizes on the two tables that we had at the end of the day with only four left they had raised £101, whilst the elder members plus 2 of the youngsters made several trips round the park with a wheelbarrow full of groceries selling raffle tickets – winner takes all.
At the end of the day the winner was drawn by the Mayor and turned out to be Michael Richards of Chapel Farm Cottage, Little Wratting.
On checking it was found that the wheelbarrow had raised £283 compared with £293 last year, and adding the tombola receipts made a total for the day of £384 compared with a total the previous year of £335.70.

This was a great effort by all considering they all spent 8 hours in the sun (which was why they appreciated Derrick's Gazebo when on a break) which was very hot but also had the threat of rain. Keeping as many as possible going on coffees, tea, cold drinks, ice lorries etc was a full time job but was money well spent.

On behalf of the Branch thanks go to Derrick, Stuart, Jim, Steve, Kieron, Connor, Jack and Reece for all the effort put in – THANK YOU.
